In Murg, with its attractive village centre, there is a lot to explore in a small area. For example, the 2.5 km long chestnut walk which goes along the imposing "Murgbachschlucht" (ravine) with its waterfall and moulins. En route, the visitor walks through the Murger Chestnut Forest which, alongside those in Bergell and Tessin, is one of the largest in Switzerland.
Not to be missed is a hike in the wildly romantic Murgtal. This takes you from a mild climate, where figs and grapes are cultivated, along the rushing Murgbach, across cow pastures up to the protected Swiss Pine (Pinus cembra) forest. There is an area of outstanding natural beauty with the three "Murgseen" (lakes) en route which makes an ideal place to stop and rest a while.
